Alpha House is Hope's Charity of Choice for January and February 2025.

Alpha House was established in 1981 as a committed response to a marginalized population of men and women who are addicted to alcohol or other drugs and living vulnerable on the streets of Calgary. The organization has grown to be a trusted charitable agency in the city, providing shelter, detox, housing, and outreach programs.
The 120-bed shelter offers individuals struggling with addiction a safe space at any time, day or night. The shelter provides medical and mental health interventions as well as ongoing support.
Alpha House has a 30-bed detox program which provides a safe environment for clients to safely withdraw from alcohol and other drugs with medical support. The 12-bed transitional program provides residential support to individuals moving on to follow-up treatment programs with external agencies.
Alpha House provides outreach services to individuals on the street through its mobile response units. The Encampment Team assists rough sleepers and other clients experiencing homelessness by connecting them with shelters, detox programs, housing programs as well as providing basic needs like food and water.
The Needle Response Team works safely to clean up needle debris on private and public property. It also educates businesses and individuals on safe disposal.
The HELP Team works within the community. The HELP team may be called when:
  • an unhoused individual in a vulnerable state (likely under the influence) is in need of transportation
  • highly intoxicated individual is stumbling down the street / stepping into traffic
  • an individual having a poor mental health moment/series of moments is in public and appears vulnerable but no criminal activity is occurring and no weapons are involved
  • an unhoused individual is sleeping in the doorway of a business
  • an individual/group of individuals are readying themselves to use substances in a public space
Alpha House operates housing programs across the city. They have secured and maintained housing for over 300 vulnerable individuals.

Staff at Hope Lutheran have appreciated help from the Needle Response Team and the HELP Team over the past several years for various reasons. Therefore we feel this is a worthwhile organization to support. Please prayerfully consider making a donation to Alpha House.
