Bodil was born in Esbjerg, Denmark. Her family moved to Copenhagen, where she met her husband, Knud Nielsen. Knud, Bodil and their sons immigrated to Canada in 1957. Later, they had two daughters and raised their family in Calgary, Alberta. Knud passed away in 1988. Bodil was married to Victor Petersen and they lived in Cochrane, Alberta for a few years. Bodil loved music and was always elated when she had the opportunity to sing. She was a member of church choirs and the Scandinavian choir for nearly three decades. Some members of the Scandinavian choir came to sing with and for Bodil at the hospital three days before she passed, and it meant a great deal to her. The Scan Centre and Scandinavian choir were Bodil’s other family. Bodil painted in the late 1960’s and in more recent years knitted for loved ones and charity. Bodil requested her knitted items be donated to those in need. Bodil is survived by her two sons and one daughter-in-law, John (Susan) Nielsen and Poul Nielsen, and two daughters and one son-in-law, May-Britt (Roland) Feist and Annette Reid; eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Bodil is also survived by her three sisters, Lizzi Haslam (Jim), Kirsten Stadelmann, and Inger Nurcombe (Jim) and one brother, Jorgen Nielsen (Liisa). |
