Our Charity of Choice for March & April is Brown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids
Hope Lutheran Church has supported this Charity in the past and we have selected them to be our Charity of Choice in March and April, 2024.
Hunger in Alberta and Calgary is a reality. And hunger looks different from what you think. In Alberta, among households with children, 16.7% of Albertans under the age of 18 lived under the poverty threshold in 2018.
The problem is growing, and research shows that food insecurity in children is strongly linked to mental health problems and behavioural issues.
Brown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids feed kids every day – kids that are in school and kids that are at-home learning. Everything they do is possible thanks to the community – including volunteers, donors and partners.
Each day, volunteers come together - either at our central kitchen or at one of 24 community kitchens that are spread throughout the city - to prepare healthy lunches that are then delivered to kids in school. Brown Bagging feeds children in over 2/3 of Calgary’s schools. In some schools we provide lunch for just one child and in other schools, we are providing lunch for every student!
These lunches are provided free and barrier free.
