Jin Won Kang of Calgary, Alberta, passed away on December 16, 2024, surrounded by his dearest loved ones.

Jin Won was born on June 28, 1942, in a small village in Sonchongun in what is now known as North Korea, to his father, Jun Oh Kang, and mother, Eui Kum Kim.

By the grace of God, Jin Won and his family were able to survive the Korean War and live the majority of their lives in Seoul, South Korea. Never having forgotten the gift of life, Jin Won strived to live by the word of the gospel and expended a great deal of his time and efforts to achieve a higher level of education to better serve his community and God. Through his dedication, Jin Won earned a law degree from the prestigious Korea University and later went on to obtain a Master of Divinity from the Presbyterian University and Theological Seminary.

Fulfilling a dream to live in Canada, Jin Won and his family immigrated to Canada on October 13, 1993. Jin Won proudly owned a sandwich and coffee business, Remy’s Cafe, which he ran with his wife for 21 years, where he greatly enjoyed conversing and getting to know the customers.

Jin Won will forever be remembered for his devotion and love for his family and God. His infectious smile and warm presence will never be forgotten.

Jin Won is survived by his wife, Ok Ja “Esther” Kang (nee Lee), daughter Grace Kang (Mark Machacek), granddaughter, Bea Jee Hyun Kang-Machacek, two brothers, Jin Guk Kang (Hyun Sook Lee), Jin Wook Kang (Sang Ah Lee), two nephews, Dae Sik Kang (Hae Min Lee), Young Sik Kang, three nieces, Jung Hae Kang, Inn Hae Kang, Kyung Hae Kang, and grandniece, Sung Hyun Kang.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made in Jin Won’s name to Hope Lutheran Church.

His service will be heald at Hope Lutherean Church
